Service Restored After Several Hours

Updated: January 1, 2024, 8:16 PM PST

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Technical issues affected 911 emergency call service in Chula Vista and National City on Sunday evening.

The Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) first reported issues with its 911 lines at 6:42 PM PST. According to an attorney representing the city, the cause of the disruption is still under investigation.

During the outage, residents were urged to use an alternative number to contact emergency services. CVPD provided the following number: (619) 422-4229.

At around 8:16 PM PST, CVPD announced that service had been restored. The National City Police Department also confirmed that 911 lines were back up and running in their city.

This technical issue highlights the importance of having a backup plan in place for emergency communication. Residents are advised to keep a list of alternative contact numbers for emergency services on hand.
