A Look at the Kansas City Chiefs Logo History

From humble beginnings to a symbol of success

By Andrew Lind, January 31, 2020

With Super Bowl LIV set for this Sunday at 6:30 pm ET on FOX, we've conducted a two-part look at the history of the Kansas City Chiefs logo. In part one, we'll take a look at the origins of the Chiefs logo and how it has evolved over the years.

The first Kansas City Chiefs logo was designed by cartoonist Bob Taylor in 1960, a year after the team was founded as the Dallas Texans. The logo featured a red and gold "KC" inside a white oval, with the words "Kansas City Chiefs" written above in red and gold.

In 1972, the Chiefs updated their logo to a more modern design. The new logo featured a red and gold "KC" inside a white oval, with the words "Kansas City Chiefs" written above in red and gold. The oval was also outlined in black.

The Chiefs logo has remained largely unchanged since 1972. However, there have been some minor tweaks over the years. In 1994, the Chiefs added a drop shadow to the oval. In 2003, the Chiefs changed the color of the oval from white to silver.

The Kansas City Chiefs logo is one of the most recognizable logos in all of sports. It is a symbol of pride and tradition for the Kansas City community.
