Sou Fujimoto: Architectural Visionary

From humble beginnings to global recognition

The early years

Sou Fujimoto was born in Hokkaido, Japan in 1971. He graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1994 with a degree in engineering. Instead of pursuing a traditional career path, Fujimoto decided to strike out on his own and take on small-scale projects.

Sou Fujimoto Architects

In 2000, Fujimoto established his own architecture firm, Sou Fujimoto Architects. The firm has since gained international recognition for its innovative and experimental designs.

Architectural philosophy

Fujimoto's architecture is characterized by its focus on the relationship between the natural and built environment. He seeks to create spaces that are both functional and inspiring, with a strong emphasis on light and transparency.

Notable projects

Some of Fujimoto's most famous projects include the House NA (2005), the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion (2013), and the Arbre Blanc Tower (2019). These projects showcase his unique approach to design and his ability to create spaces that challenge conventional norms.

Recognition and awards

Fujimoto has received numerous awards for his work, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale (2008) and the Pritzker Prize (2022). He is considered one of the most influential architects of his generation.
