Rourke rewarded with CFL Top Performer nod
BC Lions quarterback earns honour after strong showing in first start
The Lions will start Nathan Rourke a second-year Canadian quarterback after Michael Reilly.
After leading the BC Lions to a 28-10 win over the Toronto Argonauts in his first career start, Nathan Rourke has been named the CFL's Top Performer of the Week.
Rourke completed 20 of 28 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 42 yards on six carries. He was efficient and effective, and his performance helped the Lions snap a three-game losing streak.
The 24-year-old Rourke is a native of Victoria, B.C., and played his college football at Ohio University. He was drafted by the Lions in the second round of the 2020 CFL Draft, and spent last season on the practice roster.
With Reilly now retired, Rourke is expected to be the Lions' starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. He has shown that he has the talent and potential to be a successful CFL quarterback, and the Lions are hoping that he can lead them to a Grey Cup championship.
